KING'S SOCCER TEAMS TRAVEL TO EASTERN UNIVERSITY FOR FREEDOM DOUBLEHEADER SATURDAY

 

WILKES-BARRE – The King's College men's and women's soccer teams take to the road this weekend as both squad travel to St. David's, Pa. for a doubleheader matchup at Eastern University on Saturday. The women's game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. with the men's to follow at 2:30 p.m.

On the women's side, King's stands 1-14-1 overall and 0-4-1 in conference play following their best outing of the season in a 0-0 tie against Wilkes University on Tuesday. The Lady Monarchs will be without their top scorer the rest of the season as Becky Chateauneuf suffered a knee injury late in the contest against Wilkes. Jade Zuniga will be looked upon to shoulder the offensive load posting 12 points on five goals and two assists this season. Holly Spikol adds six points on two goals and two helpers. Lady Monarch goalie Katie Mangan made her first career start in net for King's against the Colonels, finishing with 10 saves in the tie.

 

Eastern's women's team enters the match with an 11-3-1 overall mark, 5-0 in Freedom play. The Eagles stand in first place in the conference thanks to the play of Kelsey Doutrich with 27 points on 12 goals and three assists. Tess Beckwith adds 20 points on seven goals and six assists. Eagles keeper Alysia Goodman has a 0.60 goals against average with 32 saves in nine matches in net.

 

On the men's side, King's stands 10-6 overall and 3-2 in league play following a 4-0 shutout victory against Wilkes on Wednesday. The Monarchs are in sole possession of the fourth and final playoff spot entering the final week of conference play, one point behind third-place FDU-Florham (3-1-1). Joey Bender continues his fine play posting a team-high 22 points on seven goals and eight assists. Alex Martino adds 15 points on seven goals and an assist, including two goals in the win against the Colonels. Goalie Andrew O'Shura boasts a 1.09 goals against average with 34 saves and three shutouts.

 

The Eastern men's squad comes into the match with a 9-4-1 overall record, 4-1 in conference matches following a 1-0 win over Delaware Valley on Wednesday. The Eagles currently hold the top spot in the Freedom Conference standings. Braden Gross is the Eagles top offensive threat with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Dexter Lamparter chips in with nine points on four goals and an assist. Goalie John Crowder has a 0.73 goals against average with 30 saves in 11 matches.

 

Following the match, the King's women's team will continue its road stretch with a non-conference tilt at Marywood University on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The men's squad will travel to Camden, N.J. Monday for a non-conference match at Rutgers-Camden at 6:00 p.m. before concluding the regular season with a pivotal game at second-place DeSales University on Saturday.
