King's Field Hockey Pushes Across Three Second Half Goals in 4-1 Win at Manhattanville

KING'S FIELD HOCKEY PUSHES ACROSS THREE GOALS IN THE SECOND HALF TO POST 4-1 WIN AT MANHATTANVILLE

 

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Calli Berryman scored two goals and the King's College field hockey pushed across three second half goals to post an important 4-1 win at Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon.

 

With the win King's improves to 12-3 overall, 5-1 in Freedom play and remain in second place in the conference standings with one conference game remaining. Manhattanville drops to 8-9 overall and 2-4 in league matches.

 

King's took an early 1-0 lead at 24:08 when Abby McManus took a Jackie Sikora cross from the right side and beat Valiant keeper Melissa Grant to the right post. Manhattanville would respond early in the second half as Jen Ascencio tied the game at 1-1 with a back-handed shot over King's goalie Erin McGinley. From there Berryman would push cross her first goal of the match from middle of the circle off an assist from Shelby Trenge to give King's back the lead at 2-1 with just under three minutes to play. The Lady Monarchs would add two quick insurance goals as Jenera Quinones and Berryman each found the back of the net at 68:30 and 69:57 respectively to seal the 4-1 conference victory.

 

King's held a commanding 22-10 shot advantage, while garnering nine penalty corners to Manhattanville's six attempts. McGinley finished with six saves in net, while Grant made 14 saves in the loss.

 

King's will return to action Tuesday when they welcome DeSales University to McCarthy Stadium at 7:00 p.m. for their final Freedom match.
