MONARCH SOCCER EDGED OUT BY RUTGERS-CAMDEN, 2-1

CAMDEN, NJ -- Andrew Filewicz scored what proved to be the deciding goal with 24:35 left in the match as host Rutgers-Camden University posted a 2-1 victory over King's College in a non-conference men's soccer matchup Monday night in Camden, NJ.

With the win, Rutgers-Camden improved to 9-8-1 while King's slipped to 10-8.

The Scarlet-Raptors took a 1-0 lead 19:15 into the game when Mitch Grotti converted a penalty kick.  King's eventually tied the game at 1-1 when Joey Bender took a pass from Tim Meyer and scored inside the left post just 5:21 into the second half. Rutgers-Camden would tally the game-winning goal when Filewicz took a pass on the right wing from Shane McGory and managed to place his shot inside the left post.

Rutgers-Camden owned a 14-8 advantage in shots while the teams were deadlocked with three corner kicks apiece. King's goalie Andrew O'Shura made three saves while Tim VanLiew had four stops for the hosts.

King's will close out the regular-season Saturday when the Monarchs visit DeSales University for a 2:00 p.m. matchup in Center Valley.
