KING'S FIELD HOCKEY DOWNS ALVERNIA 3-0 BEHIND QUINONES HAT TRICK
WILKES-BARRE – Jenera Quinones registered a hat trick to power the King's College field hockey team to a 3-1 victory over visiting Alvernia University Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, King's improved to 8-2 on the year while Alvernia slipped to 6-5.
King's took a 1-0 lead at 18:35 of the first half when Quinones worked her way free to score on a breakaway. The Lady Monarchs continued to control play and held Alvernia without chance until 3:45 remained in the half when Amanda Peto scored on the only Crusader shot of the opening 35:00 of play.
The Lady Monarchs quickly recaptured the lead just 3:31 into the second half when Quinones' shot went under the outstretched body of diving Crusader goalie Abby Eby to give the Lady Monarchs a 2-1 lead.
Quinones added the final goal of the game with 14:14 to play when she drilled in a reverse stick shot from 30 feet out just above the stick of Eby and carom in off the inside of the right post
King's dominated the game statistically, outshooting Alvernia 15-3 while holding an 8-7 edge in penalty corners. King's goalie Erin McGinley picked up the win without having to make a save while Eby posted nine stops for the Crusaders.
King's will be idle until Tuesday when the Lady Monarchs travel to Doylestown to face Delaware Valley College at 4:00 p.m.
