KING'S POSTS SECOND STRAIGHT SHUTOUT WIN AGAINST DELAWARE VALLEY IN FREEDOM MATCH, 2-0
WILKES-BARRE -- Joey Bender scored a late insurance goal and added an assist as the King's College men's soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout victory over Delaware Valley College in Freedom play Saturday afternoon.
With the win King's improves to 9-4 overall and 2-0 in conference matches. Delaware Valley drops to 5-6-1 on the season, 0-2 in Freedom play.
Max Allegro gave King's an early 1-0 lead at the 30:03 mark of the first half when he put home a rebound off a Bender attempt inside the left post. The teams would trade scoring opportunities throughout the second frame before Bender would connect on a loose ball from the top left side of the box and beat Aggies keeper Tristan Preece to the high right corner of the goal at the 89:33 mark to seal the conference win for the Monarchs.
King's held a 21-5 shot advantage throughout, while garnering eight corner kicks. Monarch goalie Brandon Raynor was solid in net making three saves to record the shutout. Preece finished with eight stops for Delaware Valley.
King's will take to the road Tuesday when they travel to Misericordia University for a key Freedom matchup scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
