KING'S FIELD HOCKEY HOSTS FDU-FLORHAM IN FREEDOM SEMI-FINAL WEDNESDAY
WILKES-BARRE – The King's College field hockey team begins their quest towards the 2010 Freedom Conference Championship as the second seeded Lady Monarchs host third seeded FDU-Florham in the semi-finals Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
This will mark the second meeting between the teams as King's posted a 5-1 victory over the Devils on September 25th at McCarthy Stadium.
Tickets for the match, which are mandated by the MAC Office, have been set at $5 adults, $4 for seniors, and $2 for students. Children under age-six will be admitted free. King's enters the tournament with a 14-4 overall record, finishing 6-1 in conference play following a 4-1 loss at Montclair State in their regular season finale. The Lady Monarchs are making their sixth consecutive trip to the Freedom postseason tournament, including two championships in 2006 and 2007. King's is led by sophomore Calli Berryman with a conference-best 44 points on 17 goals and 10 assists. Junior Jenera Quinones follows with 42 points on 17 goals and eight assists. Berryman's 43 points currently ranks fourth in school history for points in one season, with Quinones' 42 points standing fifth.
Senior Danielle Terracciano adds 26 points on 12 goals and two helpers, while junior Shawna Walp contributes 21 points on seven goals and seven assists. Senior Shelby Trenge has registered nine points on two goals and five assists from her midfield position. Senior goalie Erin McGinley has been solid in net all year boasting a 1.37 goals against average with 77 saves and four shutouts.
FDU-Florham comes into the semi-final match with a 10-9 overall mark, finishing 4-3 in league play after a 4-0 win over Manhattanville College on Tuesday which clinched the number three seed for the Devils. Senior Megan Springmeyer tops the squad with 22 points on nine goals and four assists. Senior Lauren Fabrizio and junior Lauren Guenther add 10 points each. Fabrizio totals five goals, while Guenther has registered four goals and two helpers. Devils keeper freshman Tess Loughran has a 1.77 goals against average with 116 saves and two shutouts in 19 matches in net.
Should King's emerge victorious over FDU, the Lady Monarchs will play for the Freedom Conference championship Saturday against the winner of the other semi-final game between top-seeded Eastern University (17-2/7-0) and fourth-seeded Delaware Valley College (10-9/4-3) at a site and time to be announced. Should King's and Eastern both win, the game will be played at Eastern, located in St. David's, Pa. Should King's and Delaware Valley win, the game will be played at McCarthy Stadium.

The winner of the Freedom Conference Tournament will receive an automatic berth into the 2010 NCAA Division III National Tournament.
King's finished second in the 2009 Freedom Conference Tournament, falling to Eastern in the finals. The Lady Monarchs are in search of the programs first conference championship since winning back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007.
