KING'S MEN'S BASKETBALL CAPTURES SUSQUEHANNA TIP-OFF TOURNEY CROWN; CONROY NAMED TOURNAMENT MVP

SELINSGROVE, PA -- Behind tournament most valuable player Kevin Conroy's 14-point, four rebound performance, the King's College men's basketball team captured the Susquehanna Tip-Off Tournament Championship Saturday afternoon posting a 67-61 victory over the host Susquehanna.

Following the tourney, King's sees its overall mark move to a perfect 2-0 on the young season.

The host Crusaders jumped out to an early 10-2 lead following a Scott Marcinek layup at the 12:24 mark of the first half. King's had an answer to the early run, as a jumper from rookie Chris Hobson and two free throws from Conroy cut the deficit to four at 10-6 with 11:14 remaining in the half. From there, Susquehanna built their largest lead of the first half, as a Harvey Pannell layup would give the Crusaders a 26-17 lead with just over three minutes left in the half. The Monarchs responded once again, this time a 8-0 run to close the half. King's did all their damage from the line during the run, as Hobson, Nick Reisig, and Mike McCready would cashed in from the strip to cut the lead to 26-25 heading to the break.

King's took their first lead of the contest on the first possesion of the second frame. McCready hit from the outside, followed by a Kyle Hammonds three-pointer to up the lead to 35-30 with 17:18 left in regulation. A pair of treys, first from Eric Brown, then by freshman Joe Caffrey mid-way through the second half extended the Monarch lead to 10 at 46-36. Susquehanna closed to within two with just over four minutes to play, but a late surge from King's put the game out of reach and the title into their hands. Four straight free throws from Kyle Stackhouse followed by a Hammonds' layup sealed the win.

Conroy was impressive inside yet again for King's finshing 3-for-5 from the floor and 8-of-13 from the charity stripe on way to being named Tournament MVP. Stackhouse enjoyed another banner afternoon posting his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 boards, joining Conroy on the All-Tournament squad. Hammonds added six points, while fellow rookie Caffrey contributed five points.

Susquehnna saw four players reach double figures scoring. Pannell led the charge with 14 points and fiive rebounds, while J.T. Wilson followed with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Monarchs did an excellent jopb of protecting the basketball, committing only 10 turnovers throughout, while causing 17 Crusaders miscues.

King's will make their 2010-2011 home debut Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gymnasium when they welcome defending Commonwealth Conference champion Albright College to Wilkes-Barre.
