KING'S CAGERS CAPTURE PNC/RAMADA INN CLASSIC CROWN WITH 69-61 WIN OVER SALISBURY

WILKES-BARRE – The King's College men's basketball team shot over 50.0 percent from the field in their second consecutive contest and the Monarch defense held the Salisbury offense in check capturing the PNC/Ramada Inn Classic with a 69-61 victory over Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon.

King's (5-4) opened with a 11-6 lead in the first seven minutes of play following a Kevin Conroy layup. Salisbury responded with a three-point play by David Pearman to take back the lead at 11-10 at the 10:52 mark. A layup in transition from freshman Joe Caffrey and a driving score from sophomore Dan Maguschak put the Monarchs back on top 19-16 with 7:19 remaining in the half. From there, rookie Kyle Hammond drilled a deep trey and junior Nick Reisig cashed in on three free throws as King's took a slim 27-25 advantage to the break.

The teams traded baskets to start the second frame before the visiting Sea Gulls used an 8-0 run over three minutes of play capped off by two free throws from Mike Atkins to take their largest lead of the game, 44-36. King's responded with their own 8-0 run over the next two minutes of play. Conroy scored twice form the line and Maguschak hit a three-pointer to tie the game with 8:47 left on the clock. Another trey from Reisig gave King's the lead, 50-49, which the Monarchs would never relinquish.

A 9-2 run down the stretch, capped by a Conroy layup off a nice pass from sophomore Mike McCready put King's up for good. Junior Kyle Stackhouse would make good on six consecutive free throws in the game's final twenty seconds of play as King's captured the title on their home court.
