23RD RANKED KING'S GRAPPLERS FALL TO 17th RANKED WILKES, 27-9

WILKES-BARRE -- Host Wilkes University won seven of 10 bouts as the Colonels posted a 27-9 victory over the King's College wrestling team in the final dual meet season for both teams.

With the win, Wilkes, ranked 17th nationally in Division III, set a new single-season dual meet victory record in improving to 21-6. The Monarchs, who were ranked 23rd nationally, ended the dual season at 15-10.

Wilkes opened the match with a pin at 125-pounds before King's senior Tony Miele picked up a 2-1 decision at 133 to cut the score to 6-3. The Colonels picked up a key with at 141 as Kris Krawchuck earned a 5-1 decision over Frankie Davis in a battle of Metropolitan Conference contenders to up the lead to 9-3. After Wilkes scored more bonus points with a pin at 149, King's senior Taylor Green, ranked ninth nationally in Division III, upped his season ledger to 22-4 with a 5-0 win over Nathan White as the Monarchs drew to within 15-6.

Wilkes, however, would close the door by winning the next four bouts to go ahead 27-6.  In the final bout at 285, King's Chris Rash tallied a 6-2 decision to bring the final score to 27-9.

King's will be idle until the Monarchs compete in the Metroploitan Wrestling Conference Championships on Sunday, February 21 at the College of New Jersey.
