KING'S MEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS 78-74 VICTORY OVER DELAWARE VALLEY

DALLAS – Jesse Robinson scored a game-high 25 points and the Misericordia University women's basketball team eliminated King's College from Freedom Conference playoff contention as the Cougars posted a 58-46 victory Tuesday in the Anderson Center in Dallas.

With the win, Misericordia clinched a league playoff berth, improving to 15-9 and 9-4 in conference play. King's, meanwhile, fell to 12-12 overall and 7-6 in Freedom play and saw an impressive post season run come to an end. The Lady Monarchs will miss the post-season for the first time in 16 years, last failing to make the league playoffs during the 1993-94 season.

In the first half King's took an 8-6 lead following consecutive baskets from Celia Rader. Misericordia responded with a 9-0 run, keyed by six straight point from Jesse Robinson, a bucket down low from Christine Marks, and a jumper by Vanessa Wright to give the Cougars a 15-8 lead with 11:27 left in the half

After a King's foul shot, the Cougars scored the next six points and built an 18-9 lead following one-of-two free throws from Wright at the 9:56 mark.

King's answered with a 9-0 run thanks to four points from Juliana Lynott a driving basket by Paige Carlin and a three-pointer by Megan Rigous to knot the score at 18-18 with 5:34 remaining.

Misericordia countered with a 6-0 run of its own on buckets by Robinson, Wright, and Marks to extend the lead to 24-18 with 3:56 to go. King's suffered a blow when Rader, who has been outstanding over the past two weeks, went down with an ankle injury at 3:38. King's, though, used three straight points from Carlin to cut the lead to 24-21 with 1:45 to play.

The Cougars then used a bucket from Marks and one-of-two foul shots by Robinson for a 27-21 lead with 0:33 left. King's closed to within 27-22 at the half when Kayla Dick made one-of-two foul shots with 0:04 to go.

In the second half King's closed to 28-25 after a Carlin basket but the Cougars countered with a 11-2 surge, sparked by a three-pointer from Courtney Sykes and five consecutive points by Robinson to give Misericordia a 39-27 lead with 12:53 remaining.

The Cougars continued to press the action as a three-pointer and then two foul shots from Wright pushed the score to 46-31 at the 8:46 mark. King's tried to come back and a 7-1 spurt brought the Lady Monarchs to within 48-38 after a Jess Segilia three-pointer with 5:37 left. King's then used a bucket by Lindsay Atchison and four straight points by Carlin brought King's to 51-44 with 2:00 remaining.

But one-of-two foul shots from McDaniel, a steal and lay-up from Robinson, and two more foul shots by Sykes pushed the Cougar lead to 58-44 with 0:33 left to seal the victory.

Carlin paced King's with 13 points and seven rebounds while Lynott added eight points and nine boards. Rigous tallied nine points while Dick chipped in with five points and seven rebounds.

Wright joined Robinson in double figures with 12 points while Marks tallied nine points and six boards.

King's will close out its season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. matchup at cross-town rival Wilkes.
