GREEN PLACES SECOND IN METROPOLITAN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS, RECEIVES NCAA NATIONAL TOURNEY BERTH
EWING, NJ – King's College senior Taylor Green was awarded an NCAA Division III National Tournament berth after finishing second at 157-pounds in the Metropolitan Wrestling Conference Championships Sunday at The College of New Jersey, Ewing.

Wrestling at 157, the third-seeded Green won his opening round match with a pin in 2:00 over Ryan Milbourn of York College. In the quarterfinals, he downed sixth-seeded Richard Croswell of Elizabethtown College. In the semi-finals, he upended second-seeded Eduardo Delgado of Hunter College with a 6-4 decision. In the finals, he would battle fourth-seeded Matt McGill of New York University. In the semi-finals, McGill pulled off a 12-3 upset of top-seeded Justin Bonitatis.
In the championship match, Green (25-5) fell just short is dropping a 5-4 decision to McGill to finish second in the event. McGill would go on to earn most outstanding wrestler award honors. Green was awarded one of just three wild card bids the Metroploitan Conference would receive to the 2010 NCAA Division III Championships slated for March 5-6 in Cedar Rapids, IA.
At 133, fourth-seeded Tony Miele won his first round matchup by pinning Alex Paladino of York in 4:48. In the second round, he earned an 8-5 decision over fifth-seeded Vinny Signoriello of Scranton. In the semi-finals, he dropped a hard-fought 7-5 decision to top-seeded Bill Livingston of Centenary. In the consolation round, Miele remained alive by pinning seventh-seeded Jamie Mustakis of Hunter in 6:12. Miele (19-10) then earned a third-place finish with a 9-5 decision over second-seeded Ryan Wilson of Wilkes in the third-place.
At 285-pounds, King's third-seeded Chris Rash received a first-round bye, then earned a 5-2 decision over sixth-seeded Tom Fitzpatrick of York. In the semi-finals, Rash was pinned in 4:13 by second-seeded Ed Broderick of The College of New Jersey. In the consolation round, Rash posted a 10-2 decision over Russell Boardman of Centenary. Rash (20-6) would then wrap up his collegiate career with a third-place finish after posting a 4-3 overtime victory over fourth-seeded Mike Daub of Elizabethtown.
At 174-pounds King's fourth-seeded freshman Dave Foley received a first-round bye, then garnered a 7-5 overtime win over fifth-seeded Emman Sawari of Hunter in the quarterfinals. In the semi-finals Foley was pinned in 1:35 by top-seeded Brian Broderick of The College of New Jersey in the semi-finals. In the consolations, Foley defeated Matt Terry of Scranton 11-6 to reach the consolation finals. There, Foley (16-13) settled for a fourth-place finish, dropping a 16-5 decision to third-seeded Jim Gentile of Elizabethtown.
In the 197-pound weight class, King's fourth-seeded freshman Peter Dwyer received a first-round bye, and then scored an 8-2 decision over fifth-seeded George Saliba or York. In the semi-finals, Dwyer dropped a 13-5 decision to top-seeded Zach Pizzaro of Wilkes. In the first-round of consolations, Dwyer (18-9) was eliminated by sixth-seeded Jamie Myers of New York University by an 8-7 decision.
In the 125-pound class, Monarch sophomore Mike Tabasco upset fourth-seeded Jose Vega of Centenary with an 8-2 decision. Tabasco then fell in the quarter-finals to fifth-seeded Dan Franke of The College of New Jersey. In the consolation bracket, Tabasco remained alive with an 11-10 decision over Adlee Fayyez of New York University. Tabasco (9-19), however, was eliminated one match away from reaching the consolation finals by virtue of a pin in 4:30 to third-seeded Jerrid Hartman of York.
At 141, senior Frankie Davis received a tough draw and a bad seed when he was rated eighth in the weight class. Davis drew top-seeded Gregg Martino of New York University in his first match and dropped a 10-4 decision. In his first consolation match, Davis defeated Andrew Greco of Scranton 9-3 before downing fifth-seeded Eric Rhoades of Elizabethtown 8-7. Davis (18-12), however, would also fall one win shy of reaching the consolation finals, dropping a 3-2 decision to Alex Alsieux of Centenary.
In the 149-pound class, Monarch unseeded rookie Chris Puorro dropped his opener to third-seeded John Stillo of Centenary by a fall in 1:48. Puorro (5-11) then was eliminated in a 3-2 loss to fourth-seeded Vitaly Simkin of Hunter.
At 165, Monarch unseeded sophomore Jerry Robbins (6-21) fought hard but eventually dropped a 6-2 decision to second-seeded Kyle Packer of The College of New Jersey. Robbins was then eliminated in his next match by a 3-1 decision to Sean Connors of New York University.
In the 184-pound weight class, King's fourth-seeded freshman Frank Marinucci dropped a tough 4-2 decision to fifth-seeded Paul Connors of Elizabethtown in the quarterfinals. Marinucci (14-12) was then eliminated by Rob Klotz of Hunter by a 3-1 decision.
