KING'S BASEBALL POSTS 11-4 VICTORY OVER BAPTIST BIBLE
WILKES-BARRE – The King's College baseball team exploded for six runs in a decisive fourth inning as the Monarchs posted a 11-4 victory over visiting Baptist Bible College Tuesday in a game halted after six innings due to darkness.
Baptist Bible struck first in the top of the first inning when Jon Canazon belted a solo home run, Eric Teyson followed with a double, and Tim Radcliff delivered an RBI single to give the Defenders a 2-0 lead.
King's countered in their open in at-bats when Chris Sweeney doubled and later scored from third on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sean Rooney.
In the fourth inning, Matt Unger and Mike Kusters led off with a singles and advanced one base each on a wild pitch. After an infield out, Brenton Eades delivered a two-run single to put the Monarchs on top 3-2. After Mike Fignar Walked, Joey Troxell singled to load the bases. Sweeney then came through with a three-run double to push the score to 6-1.
King's added three more runs in the fifth inning when Jeremy Bonser legged out a one-out triple, followed by walks to Eades and Mike Fignar. Troxell then smacked a two-run single before Sweeney lofted a sacrifice fly to plate Fignar from third-base to push the Monarch advantage to 10-4.
After the Defenders scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth, King's added its final run in the bottom of the sixth when Pat Harsch doubled and later scored on a bases-loaded walk to Brian Mikus.
King's 11-hit attack was paced by Sweeney who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI. Eades and Troxell were both 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Monarchs. Bobby Peron picked up the win for King's in relief of starter Craig Levitsky. Person pitched five innings and allowed two unearned runs while striking out five batters. Levitsky lasted two innings, surrendering two earned runs and striking out four Baptist Bible hitters.
The Defenders were led by Canason and Teysen with two hits apiece. Tim Radcliff took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts in four innings.
King's returns to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. matchup at Susquehanna University.
