Monarch Baseball Splits with DVC Saturday, Wins Season Series 2-1

KING'S BASEBALL SPLITS SATURDAY DOUBLEHEADER AT DELAWARE VALLEY TO WIN WEEKEND SERIES 2-1

 

DOYLESTOWN –  The King's College baseball team dropped the first game of a doubleheader 11-4, but responded by taking the nightcap 13-6 Saturday in Doylestown. Combined with Friday's 9-4 victory in Wilkes-Barre, the Monarchs won the three-game season series between the teams 2-1. In the process, King's stands at 13-8 overall and 8-4 in Freedom Conference play while Delaware Valley is 9-13 and 2-10.

 

In the opener, the Aggies took a 9-0 lead after three innings and the Monarchs would never recover. Matt Unger was 2-for-3 with two RBI while Rob Fravel went 2-for-3 with a RBI as the Monarchs posted six hits in the game.

 

In the nightcap, King's broke open a scoreless game with six runs in the third inning. Joey Troxell and Rob Fravel singled and before a walk to Sean Rooney loaded the bases. Unger followed with a RBI single before Brian Mikus came through with a two-out two-run base hit. Eric Matula then smacked a two-run double before Pat Harsch drove in Matula with a single. 

 

The Monarchs built a 9-0 lead with three more runs in the fourth when Troxell and Fravel both drew walks, followed by a RBI double off the bat of Unger.  Mikus then delivered a two-run single for the Monarchs. 

 

After Delaware Valley pushed across six runs in the sixth to cut the score to 9-6, King's put the game away with a four-run seventh inning. Harsch singled and Troxell walked before Unger smacked a two-run single to centerfield. After Mikus posted another RBI single, Brenton Eades drove in Unger from third with a RBI base hit to push the score to 13-6.

 

Mikus finished the game 4-for-5 with five RBI while Unger was 3-for-4 with four RBI. Fravel went 3-for-4 with three runs while Matula and Harsch added two hits each. Dan Jenkins picked up the win for King's, tossing five innings and allowing two earned runs.
