KING'S MEN'S TENNIS EDGED BY EASTERN
ST. DAVID'S -- It took nearly six hours but the host Eastern University men's tennis team walked away with a narrow 5-4 victory over visiting King's College Friday in St. David's. Marred by rain, the match was moved to local indoor courts and with only three courts available to the teams, the match turned into a marathon.
With the loss, King's slipped to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in Freedom Conference play. Eastern improved to 7-6 and 3-1.
The match started out well for King's which won two of the three doubles contests. Jon Hand and Tim Carroll were victorious by a 8-5 count at the number-one doubles flight while Mike Steinberger and Nick Conte posted an 8-4 triumph.
In singles, however, the Monarchs won just two of the four matches. Hand posted a 6-3, 6-2 decision in the first flight while Steinberger won a 6-2, 6-4 verdict in the third flight.
King's returns to action on Monday when the Monarchs host Baptist Bible College at 3:30 p.m. at Kirby Park.
