King's Baseball Registers 11-3 Win Over Scranton

KING'S BASEBALL POST 11-3 VICTORY OVER THE UNIVERSITY OF SCRANTON

 

WILKES-BARRE - - The King's College baseball team had 15-hits as the Monarchs posted a 11-3 victory over visiting University of Scranton on Wednesday.

 

King's struck first in the bottom of the second when Rob Fravel singled and later scored on a Chris Sweeney double to center field. Matt Unger would drive in Sweeney with a single and would later score two batters later when Jeremy Bonser hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 3-0.

 

In the bottom of the second inning the Monarchs would strike again as Rob Lemoncelli singled to second base to lead off the inning. Joey Troxell delivered a double to right center field to give King's the 4-0 lead.

 

Scranton scored their first run in the top of the fourth inning as Chris Bligh reached base on a fielding error and touched home on a David Giglio double down the left field line. In the top of the fifth inning, Scranton cut the lead to 4-2 when Michael Eckman walked and stole second base to set up runners in scoring position for Tim LeCompte who delivered a double to left field.

 

King's added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when Chris Sweeney smacked. Unger singled to left field, followed by Brian Mikus who doubled to right field to drive in a run. Bonser flied out to right field before Pat Harsh brought home the third run with a single to the infield to push the Monarch advantage to 7-2.

 

The Royals cut the lead to 7-3 run in the top of the sixth when Chris Bligh led the inning off with a double and would later score on a pitch hit double by Chris Velazquez.

 

In the bottom of the seventh inning the Monarchs would score two runs as Mikus led the inning off with a single and Bonser legged a RBI double down the left field line to push the score to 8-3. Bonser later scored on a Matt Pritchard single to right field to give the Monarchs a 9-3 cushion

 

King's added two more runs in the eighth inning as Sweeney led off with a walk and eventually scored when Unger ripped a base hit to left center. Later in the inning, Tim Marchetti would hit a towering sacrifice fly to deep right field, driving in Unger from third base with the final run of the game.

 

Unger was 3-for-5 with two RBI while Mikus was also 3-for-5 with one RBI. Troxell finished 2-for-5 with one RBI while Sweeney went 2-for-3 with a  RBI.

 

LeCompte led the Royals going 1-for-3 and driving in one RBI. Giglio went 1-for-4 with a RBI.

 

King's will be back in action at Lipo Field at the Betzler Athletic Complex for an important conference game against FDU-Florham with the first pitch slated for 3:30 p.m.
