KING'S BASEBALL HOSTING PENN STATE HAZLETON WEDNESDAY, VIEW LIVESTATS

 

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College baseball team will return to the diamond on Wednesday when the Monarchs host Penn State Hazleton in a 4:00 p.m. non-conference matchup at Lipo Field in the Robert L. Betzler Athletic Complex.

 

King's enters the matchup with a 19-11 overall record after picking up doubleheader split with FDU-Florham on Saturday.

The game was just added to the Monarch schedule late Monday after Penn College of Technology was forced to pull out of Tuesday's doubleheader to make up a conference game.

The Monarchs are led by senior catcher Matt Unger who is batting .394 (41-104) average with seven doubles, three triples, two home runs, and 29 RBI. Sophomore outfielder Brian Mikus stands at .385 (35-91) with seven doubles, three triples, one home run and 24 RBI. Senior Jeremy Bonser hits .373 (25-67) with seven doubles, one triple, one home run and 14 RBI. Freshman Chris Sweeney follows at .367 (36-98) with 14 doubles, four home runs, one triple and 21 RBI. Senior Sean Rooney adds a .301 (25-83) average with six doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI.

 

Leading the way on the mound so far is senior Eric Matula is 5-1 with a 3.21 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 47.2 innings. Junior Tommy Rozelle is 4-3 with a 4.50 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 42.0 innings. Senior Dan Jenkins is 3-1 with a 2.11 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 21.1 innings.

 

King's will then close out the regular-season with a critical weekend three-game series against Manhattanville College. The teams are battling for the third-seed with the Monarchs holding a one-game advantage. The Monarchs travel to Manhattanville for a single game on Friday before the teams play a doubleheader Saturday at King's Betzler Complex.
