KING'S BASEBALL PLACES FOUR PLAYERS ON ALL-FREEDOM CONFERENCE SQUAD.

ANNVILLE - - The King's College baseball team placed four players on the 2010 All-Freedom Conference squad. Matt Unger, Chris Sweeney, Eric Matula, Tom Rozelle were all named as Second Team selections.
The four members helped lead the baseball team to a 23-16 overall record and a 12-9 Freedom Conference mark.
Unger (Orangeburg, NY/Tappan Zee), a senior catcher, started 38 of the 39 games he played in during the year. He led the Monarchs with a team-best .414 (53-127) batting average with 11 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 36 RBI, and scored 40 runs. He registered a .598 slugging percentage and ranked among the top defensive players in the conference with his ability to block balls, keeping runners advancing.
Matula (Cresco/Pocono Mountain East), a senior pitcher/first-baseman, anchored the pitching staff with a 5-2 record with a 4.35 ERA striking out 40 batters in 51.2 innings of work. Matula also had a .248 (27-109) batting average with six doubles, one triple, 16 RBI, and scored 20 runs, while also having a .327 on base percentage. He was also an outstanding defensive player with a .978 feilding percentage, making just five errors in 230 chances.
Rozelle (Vestal, NY/Vestal), a junior pitcher who was in his first season as a regular starter, was another key part to the Monarch staff. Rozelle posted a 5-4 record with a 4.02 earned run average while striking out 63 batters in 56 innings of work. Rozelle was twice named as the Freedom Conference Pitcher of the Week during the 2010 campaign. Earlier in the week he wa snamed to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine District II Academic All-American Team.
Sweeney (Mountain Top/Crestwood) enjoyed a solid freshman year as he finished fourth on the team with a .386 (49-127) batting average, including 18 doubles, a team-high five home runs, one triple, 29 RBI, and scored 31 runs. The outfielder had a .661 slugging percentage and a .427 on base percentage.
