ALVERNIA WOMEN'S SOCCER POSTS 1-0 OVERTIME WIN OVER KING'S
WILKES-BARRE -- Amy Mesce scored the only goal of the game 1:38 into overtime as the visiting Alvernia University women's soccer team posted a 1-0 non-conference victory over host King's College Tuesday night at McCarth Stadium.
With the win Alvernia improved to 4-2 while King's slipped to 1-5.
After 90 minutes of scoreless play, the teams entered extra time, where Mesce drilled a shot at King's keeper Danielle Johnson. The Lady Monarch junior made the stop, but the ball caromed right back to Mesce, who poked the rebound into the back of the net for the sudden victory
Alvernia outshot King's 28-7 and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Johnson was outstanding in goal with 13 saves while Kirsten Kelley made five stops for the Crusaders.
King's next travels to Reading to face Penn State Berks Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
