Men's Soccer Posts 6-1 Win at Penn State Berks

READING, PA – The visiting King's College men's soccer team scored five unanswered second half goals to break open a 1-1 tie after one half of play to secure a 6-1 non-conference win at Penn State Berks Wednesday afternoon.

 

Following the win, King's improves to 5-3 overall while PSU Berks falls to 1-6 on the season.

 

Joey Bender put King's up early when he scored off an assist from Yehudi Maldonado at the 19:06 mark of the first half. Penn State Berks' Zachary Alesi knotted the game at 1-1 with a penalty shot goal at 45:25. From there, the Monarchs would answer with a furious offensive rally scoring five straight goals. Bender added his second of the contest at the 52:11 mark thanks to an assist from Dan Carle. Alex Martino would strike twice, first at the 53:25 mark, then at 65:39 to up the lead to 4-1.  J.D Cook and Max Allegro would add insurance tallies in the final five minutes to conclude the Monarchs offensive explosion.

 

King's held a commanding 26-5 shots advantage and a 9-1 lead in corner kicks. Brandon Raynor and Mark Labbadia split time in net for King's, each making one save. PSU Berks' Jonathan Jablonka and Jonathan Martin anchored the Lions in net combining for six saves.

 

King's will return to action Saturday when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College for a non-conference match at 12:00 p.m.
