MONARCH SOCCER TEAM POSTS 4-0 SHUTOUT OF GWYNEDD-MERCY
GWYNEDD VALLEY – Dan Horn scored a pair of goals to lead the King's College men's soccer team to a 4-0 road victory over host Gwynedd-Mercy College Saturday in Gwynedd Valley.
With the win, King's improved to 6-3 while Gwynedd fell to 1-8.
Horn opened the scoring at 30:12 of the first half on an unassisted goal. The Monarchs quickly grabbed a 2-0 lead when Joey Bender struck net off an assist from Dan Mortenson just 1:46 later. King's forged a 3-0 halftime advantage when Max Allegro scored unassisted with 8:56 remaining in the opening stanza.
The Monarchs would push across the final goal of the game just 1:55 into the second half when Horn knocked in a loose ball in front of the Griffin net.
King's owned a 19-8 advantage in shots as well a 9-3 lead in corner kicks. The Monarchs played three goalies in the game as starter Andrew O'Shura and back-ups Brandon Raynor and Mark Labbadia were needed to make just three saves.
King's returns to action on Tuesday when the Monarchs host Susquehanna University at 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium in the Betzler Athletic Complex.
