WILKES-BARRE – The King's College women's basketball team raced out to a 41-23 half-time lead and never looked back as the Lady Monarchs remained unbeaten in Freedom Conference play with a 61-47 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, King's improved to 10-5 overall and stands alone in first place with a 4-0 ledger in conference games. Delaware Valley, meanwhile, slipped to 6-9 overall and 0-4 in league play.

King's jumped out to an early 16-9 lead at the 13:12 mark following four straight points from Katlin Michaels, a bucket by Lindsay Atchison, and a three-pointer from Brittany Muscatell. After the Aggies cut the lead to 16-11 on a jumper by Sarah Delcasale with 12:54 on the clock, the Lady Monarchs countered with a 7-2 surge to take a 23-13 lead following a traditional three-point play by Molly Dahl.

The Aggies closed to 24-17 on a pair of foul shots by Jackie Shunkwiler with 7:15 remaining in the half, but the Lady Monarchs would go on a decisive 14-3 run to take command. Paige Carlin ignited the assault with seven straight points while Muscatell contributed four in the run, including a pair of foul shots with 2:17 left in the half to give King's a 38-20 lead. After the Aggies cut the lead to 38-23, Michaels buried a three-pointer from the wing with 0:37 on the clock to give the Lady Monarchs an 18-point lead at the break.

In the second half, both teams would have trouble finding the basket, but King's did enough to stretch the lead to 55-31 after back-to-back inside baskets by Atchison and Dahl with 8:34 to play. The Lady Monarchs continued to hold a comfortable lead and led by 19 points with 2:38 to go after a driving lay-up form Muscatell gave King's a 59-40 advantage.

Delaware Valley outscored King's 7-2 the rest of the way to close the gap during the final moments of the contest.

Carlin led a balanced attack with 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals, while Muscatell also added 12 points with four assists.
