WILKES-BARRE -- King's College opened up a 24-point advantage at halftime and cruised through the second frame on way to a 99-53 win over Albany Pharmacy on Monday night on the final day of the Wilkes-Barre Challenge held at Wilkes University's Martz Center.

With the win, King's (6-5) finishes 1-1 over the annual two-day round robin tournament. Albany Pharmacy drops to 3-6 overall on the year.

Kyle Hammonds
The Monarchs scored early and often in the opening stanza taking a 13-7 lead following two free throws from rookie Kyle Hammonds (left) with 15:37 on the clock. Senior Adam Brasky entered the scoring column with a deep three-pointer and Hammonds continued his scoring tear with six straight points, including his second of five makes from long range to extend the lead to 18 at 37-19 with just over seven minutes left in the half. An old fashioned three-point play from Nick Reisig followed by a three-pointer by sophomore Matt Fiorino gave King's their largest advantage of the half up 46-22 three minutes later. King's would take a commanding 48-24 lead to the break.

The second half saw much of the same as the Monarchs continued to score at will. Hammonds connected on his fifth trey of the contest just seven minutes in, as King's led by as many as 36 points, 77-41.

Hammonds, who was named to the All-Tournament squad, was brilliant throughout finishing with a career-best 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting including a career-best five makes from behind the arc in 20 minutes of play. Fiorino was equally as impressive from long range adding 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting from long distance. Senior Kevin Conroy, who was held without a field goal in yesterday's loss, was solid inside finishing with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Brasky contributed nine points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Reisig totaled eight points and four rebounds.

As a squad, King's faired much better shooting from the floor making 45.5 percent (35-77) of their shots. The Monarchs canned a season-best 48.4 percent (15-31) of their attempts from behind the arc. King's also won the war on the boards, out-rebounding Albany Pharmacy 60-43.

Casey Redfern led Albany Pharmacy with 19 points, while Peter Aiken added 10 points and seven rebounds.

King's returns to Freedom Conference play Saturday when the Monarchs travel to Madison, N.J. to face FDU-Florham at 3:00 p.m.
