KING'S MEN'S BASKETBALL TOPS FDU-FLORHAM 76-66 BEHIND HAMMONDS' CAREER DAY

MADISON, N.J. -- Freshman guard Kyle Hammonds scored a career-high 30 points including six three-pointers to lead visiting King's College over FDU-Florham 76-66 in Freedom Conference play Saturday afternoon.

With the win King's moves to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in league games. FDU-Florham slips to 3-9 on the year and 1-2 in Freedom contests.

Hammonds began his career day canning two consecutive treys to give King's an early 12-8 advanatge with 15:22 on the clock. Following a Devils miss, Hammonds was true again from deep connecting on his third three-pointer of the half to keep the Monarchs on top, 20-17 midway through the opening stanza. Sophomore guard Matt Fiorino joined in the long ball assault hitting a trey to give King's their largest lead of the half, 33-23, with just over three minutes left. Two FDU-Florham free throws would cut the King's advantage to seven points as the Monarchs took a 37-30 lead into the break.

Hammonds was red hot in the opening frame finishing with 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.

After the Devils cut the deficit to four to start the second half, King's responded with a 7-0 run with five points coming from Hammonds including his fifth trey of the contest. Senior forward Kevin Conroy's score inside the paint gave the Monarchs their biggest lead, 50-37, with 13:38 left in the game. The lead swelled to as many as 20 points following a Adam Brasy jumper in transition midway through the frame. From there, the host Devils slowly chipped away at the lead, and a three pointer from Koko Karajelian brought the Devils to within six, 70-64 with 2:26 left. King's kept their composure and broke through the FDU pressure for two easy layups and Hammonds delivered from the charity stripe hitting four straight free throws to seal the first conference win of the year for the Monarchs.

Hammonds was efficient in his efforts on the offensive end finishing 7-for-13 from the floor and 6-for-9 from long range. The rookie guard also hit all ten of his free throws and added six rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Conroy was solid inside posting 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting before fouling out late. Brasky added 12 points, while Nick Reisig contributed nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Adam Katz led FDU-Florham with 20 points and five rebounds, while Trevor Sykes added 15 points. Will Green rounded out the double figure scorers for the Devils finishing with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
