KING'S MEN'S SOCCER POSTS CRUCIAL 1-0 FREEDOM CONFERENCE VICTORY OVER WILKES

EDWARDSVILLE -- Max Allegro scored the game's lone goal with just 6:21 remaining in regulation as the King's College men's soccer team picked up an exciting 1-0 victory over cross-town rival Wilkes University in a critical Freedom Conference matchup Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.

With the win, King's improved to 9-3-2 overall and remained in the conference playoff hunt by improving to 3-2 in league competition. Wilkes, meanwhile, slipped to 5-9 and 1-4 in Freedom contests.

After a scoreless first half in which King's held a 10-5 advantage in shots, the game remained scoreless entering the 83rd minute. With the game seemingly headed for overtime, Allegro took a pass from Greg DeMaio and launched a shot from the right side of the field that found its way just inside the left post to put the Monarchs on top at the 83:39 mark.

Wilkes attempted
to fight back and managed two shots over the final six minutes but the King's defense held firm. One shot was saved by Monarch goalie Mark Labbadia, while the second sailed wide of the net.

King's owned a 22-14 advantage in shots and each team attempted six corner kicks. Labbadia
posted four saves in net for the Monarchs while Wilkes counterpart Patrick Loube made eight saves.

King's returns to action Saturday with another important league contest when defending Freedom Conference champion DeSales
University visits the Betzler Athletic Complex for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
