CENTER VALLEY -- The King's College field hockey team broke open a scoreless game at the half with three goals over the final 35 minutes of play as the Lady Monarchs registered a 3-0 victory over host DeSales University Tuesday in Center Valley.

With the win, King's improved to 12-5 overall and clinched a Freedom Conference Tournament berth by improving to 5-2. DeSales
, meanwhile, slipped to 4-14 and 1-6 in league games.

King's had several scoring opportunities in the first half but was unable to score, thanks in part to the play of DeSales
goalie Victoria DelToro who was made seven first-half saves.

It was a different second half, however, as King's pressure finally paid off. The Lady Monarchs reached the scoreboard 11:37 into the final period when Jenera
Quinones fired a reverse stick shot on goal and Shawna Walp redirected the shot into the DeSales net for a 1-0 Lady Monarch lead. With her 12th assist of the year, Quinones established a new King's single-season record, surpassing the previous mark of 11 she shared with Debbie Wychock (2008) and Lindsay Sabo (2004 and 2005).

The score grew to 2-0 just 6:42 later when Quinones corralled a feed of a penalty corner and drilled in a shot from just inside the circle. King's added a final goal with 2:39 left in the contest when Calli
Berryman went fired in a shot top-shelf, just under the cross bar to seal the victory.

With one goal and one assist, Quinones also moved into a second-place tie on King's career scoring list, registering her 157th point, equalling the mark set by Sabo from 2003-06. Quinones trails only Wychock, who tallied 163 points from 2005-08.
King's outshot DeSales 22-5 and held a dominating 14-1 advantage in penalty corners. Lady Monarch goalie Megan Withrow made three saves while DelToro finished with 11 saves for the Bulldogs.

King's wraps up the regular-season on Saturday when the Lady Monarchs travel to face a formidable Elizabethtown College squad at 1:00 p.m.
