KING'S WOMEN'S SWIM TEAM OPENS 2011-12 CAMPAIGN WITH 107-81 VICTORY OVER DREW

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College women's swim team opened the 2011-12 season with a 107-81 victory over visiting Drew University Friday night in Scandlon Gymnasium. The Lady Monarchs won by a 107-81 count while the men's were edged out 91-89.
Returning Middle Atlantic Conference champion
Patricia Manning was a winner in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:20.68, and in the 100 breaststroke at 1:14.55. Kim Brino finished first in the 200 freestyle with a 2:06.12 and also won the 100 butterfly with a 1:03.67
Shannon Johnson was second in the 200 freestyle with a 2:13.45, as well as in the 500 freestyle at 6:03.71.
Erin McLin captured the 50 freestyle at 27.3 and the 100 backstroke with a 1:05.84
Caroline Fitch was second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.95.
King's team of McLin, Manning, Brino, and Johnson won the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:00.39. The Lady Monarch team of
Amanda Casey,
Kathleen Kerr, Fitch, and
Chrissy O'Loughlin won a thrilling 200 freestyle race when Fitch came from behind on the final leg to outreach Drew's Rebecca Hutsebaut for the victory.
The Lady Monarchs resume its season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m matchup against Marywood University in Scranton.
