WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 10, 2026) - On Saturday morning, the King's College women's swimming team opened its season with a tri-meet against Wilkes University and Marywood University at the Wyoming Valley CYC. The Monarchs fell to the Colonels, 185-74 and fell to the Pacers 193-73, to start the season 0-2.
The quartet of MaryCatherine Cornine, Carla Hidalgo, Olivia Bohr and Gabriella Cefaloni opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in 2:08.58. Nina Albertelli finished fifth in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 15:10.76.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Hidalgo finished fourth at 2:15.98. In the 50-yard backstroke, Adriana Sanchez and Alexa Ruiz Rivera placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in 37.68 and 42.13. Bohr finished sixth in the 50-yard breaststroke by swimming a time of 39.63.
Sanchez and Albertelli placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:31.41 and 1:39.74. In the 50-yard freestyle, Cefaloni earned third in 28.31, while Emma Schaefer and Ruiz Rivera placed sixth and seventh, respectively, touching the blocks at 32.39 and 36.66.
Cornine finished third in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.44, while Schaefer placed fifth in 1:28.93. In the 100-yard backstroke, Hidalgo finished second, as she swam a time of 1:07.49. Cefaloni placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:21.09, while Bohr finished seventh in 1:27.35. In the 200-yard individual medley, Cornine finished third in 2:31.25.
King's closed the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the group of Cornine, Bohr, Hidalgo and Cefaloni finished with a team time of 1:55.68.
The Monarchs return to action Saturday, October 17, at 1 p.m. for their first home meet of the season against Lebanon Valley College at Scandlon Natatorium. The meet will also recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
