Monarch Soccer Battles to 2-2 Double-Overtime Draw with Ursinus

KING'S MEN'S SOCCER BATTLES URSINUS TO 2-2 TIE

WILKES-BARRE – The King's College men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 double-overtime tie with Ursinus College Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup in McCarthy Stadium.

With the draw, King's stands at 6-2-1 on the year while Ursinus is now 2-7-2.
Ursinus took a 1-0 lead at 33:59 of the first half when Ricky Griffith converted off a short touch pass from Andrew Mahalick.

The Monarchs knotted the score just 4:41 later when Alex Martino scored on a heel kick following a direct kick from Joey Bender.

In the second half King's took a 2-1 lead when Jody Maldonado outmaneuvered an Ursinus defender inside the box and drilled the ball inside the left post with 29:36 left in the second half. Ursinus tied the score at 2-2 when Chris Polster scored off another assist by Mahalick with 23:08 left in the contest.

The score would remain the same through the rest of regulation before the teams played two scoreless overtime periods to settle for the tie.
King's held a 14-11 advantage in total shots as well as a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. The Monarchs took 13 corner kicks in the game compared to four for the Bears.

King's goalies Brandon Raynor and Andrew O'Shura combined for three saves while Ursinus keeper Mike Alfieri posted four stops.

King's returns to action Saturday when the Monarchs face Delaware Valley in a 3:00 p.m. Freedom Conference matchup in Doylestown.
