KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO ALVERNIA, 2-0
READING -- The host Alvernia University field hockey team broke open a scoreless game with two second half goals as the Lady Crusaders posted a 2-0 victory over visiting King's College in a non-conference matchup Wednesday in Reading.
With the win, Alvernia improved to 9-3 on the year while King's slipped to 6-4.
After a scoreless opening half, Eric Solley gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead with an unassisted score just 2:41 into the second half.
Alvernia iced the game with 4:55 left in the contest when Taylor Eichenberger struck net off an assist from Lauren Guido.
The Crusaders owned a commanding 20-3 advantage in shots while also leading 7-3 in penalty corners.
King's goalie Megan Withrow played all 70 minutes in the game and posted 15 saves in the game.
The Lady Monarchs return to action Saturday when the Lady Monarchs travel to St. Davids to defending Freedom Conference champion Eastern University in a rematch of the 2010 league title game.
