King's Men Use Balanced Attack to Top Penn College 79-63

Williamsport, PA- The King's College men's basketball team spread out the scoring on their way to a season-opening 79-63 win over Penn College Tuesday night at Bardo Gymnasium.

The Monarchs jumped out early building a 12-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game getting five points from reigning  Freedom Conference "Rookie of the Year" Kyle Hammonds.  The Wildcats battled back with an 11-2 run to take a 15-14 lead after a traditional three-point play with 12:18 to play in the first half.

King's closed out the first half on a 24-9 run capped by a Matt Fiorino 3-pointer that was assisted by Ian Oakley to go into the locker room with a 38-24 lead.

Penn College fought back to within six points at 46-40, with 13:20 to play after Bryant House made a layup and converted a subsequent free throw to complete a three-point play, but King's responded with a 29-15 run over the next 11:00 to build the lead to 75-55 with just 2:07 on the clock.
Joe Caffrey and Donovan Womack led the Monarchs in scoring with 12 points each.  Freshman Tim O'Shea added 11 points and six rebounds in 22 minutes.  The fourth King's player to reach double figures was senior Kyle Stackhouse with 10 points as well as four helpers.

Three Wildcats scored 12 points in Greg Gibbs, Scott Fenton, and Nicholas Deleon who also turned in seven boards.  House led all players with 15 boards.

The Monarchs return to action when they take on William Patterson in the first round of the Stevens Institute of Technology Tip-Off Tournament.  The game is set to tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
