King's Field Hockey Falls to Eastern 2-1 in Freedom Conference Semi-Finals

KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO EASTERN 2-1 IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE SEMI-FINALS

ST. DAVID'S -- Brittany Moyer broke open a scoreless game at the half with two second half goals as second-seeded the host Eastern University field hockey team posted a 2-1 victory over third-seeded King's College in a Freedom Conference semi-final matchup Wednesday in St. David.

With the win, Eastern improved to 11-8-1 in the year while King's saw its season end with a 12-6 mark.

After a scoreless first half, Eastern found the back of the net first when Moyer scored on a crossing pass from Yvonne Herbster at the 44:42 mark. Eastern tacked on a second goal when Moyer and Herbster hooked up again on a play nearly identical to the first goal as the Eagles built a 2-0 advantage at 64:15.
King's got on the board following a penalty corner when Megan Mundy scored off an assist from Lindsay Mercer with 0:31 left in the contest. The Monarchs, however, would be unable to get off another shot as Eastern held on for the victory.

King's held a slim 9-8 advantage in shots as well as a 9-6 lead in penalty corners. Lady Monarchs goalie Megan Withrow posted three saves while Eagle keeper Sara Blaylock stopped seven shots,
