KING'S WOMEN FALL TO 2011 "FINAL FOUR" PARTICIPANT ILLINOIS WESLEYAN

WHITTIER, CA -- The King's College women's basketball team opened up a 29-15 lead over the first 12 minutes of the first half but the Lady Monarchs went cold the rest of the way as 2011 NCAA Division III "Final Four" qualifier Illinois Wesleyan rallied to post a 83-61 victory in the first round of the Purple and Gold Poet Classic Friday at Whittier College, Whittier, Ca.

With the loss, King's slipped to 7-3 on the year. Illinois Wesleyan, the four-time defending College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, improved to 6-4. All four of the Titans losses this season have come to nationally-ranked squads.

King's came out strong in the opening half in building a 14-point lead but the Titans rallied and went on a 20-6 run over the final 8:28 of the half to take a 37-33 at the break.
The Lady Monarchs were unable to close the gap in the second half as King's committed 14 turnovers during the final 20 minutes while scoring just 28 points.

Samantha Simcox
and Lindsay Atchison had 14 points each for the Lady Monarchs. Olivia Lett had 17 points and five rebounds to pace Illinois Wesleyan.


King's will return to the court Friday when the Lady Monarchs face Regis College of Massachusetts at 5:00 p.m. Eastern standard time. Regis defeated host Whittier College 64-59 in its first-round pairing to improve to 6-2 on the year.
