Wilkes-Barre, PA-- The King's College men's basketball team won a thrilling 75-70 decision over FDU-Florham in the Monarchs' home opener of the 2011-12 campaign.

The Monarchs (3-3, 2-0 Freedom) trailed 67-65 with just 1:27 to play in the game when Nick Reisig drained a 3-pointer assisted by Kyle Hammonds to give King's a lead it never gave back. On the ensuing Devils' (1-4, 1-1) possession, Hammonds stole the ball and scored an easy layup. The Monarchs finished the final 0:26 going 5-of-6 from the charity stripe to ice the game.

The teams traded baskets early and were tied 5-5 at the 16:20 mark in the first half. King's went on a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 19-7 lead with 9:50 remaining in the first half. FDU bounced back taking the lead on a foul shot by Ardell Roberts to cap a 21-8 run. Matt Fiorino hit a 3-points with 0:55 seconds left in the half to give the Monarchs a 30-28 lead at the break.

The teams were tied for the third time at 32-32 with 19:00 minutes to play in the game when Hammonds hit a short jumper to spark a 10-2 run that gave King's it's largest lead of the second half at 42-34. Once again the Devils battled back with an 19-7 spurt of their own to take a 53-49 lead.

The teams played a back-and-forth second half with the lead changing hands six times with four ties.

Reisig scored 13 points for King's including shooting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and adding five rebounds and three assists. Hammonds also tallied 13 points, while dishing out five assists and pulling down four boards. Allen Kuiper just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Mike Foster gave the Monarchs a lift off the bench with nine points and three rebounds.

Mike Williamson posted a game-high 21 points for the Devils off the bench, shooting 4-of-11 from long range. Will Green posted a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Andrew Stress also chipped in 12 points and grabbed five boards. Adam Katz scored 10 points and added four rebounds and three helpers.

The Monarchs hit the road again on Tuesday when they travel to PSU-Hazleton for a non-conference matchup set to tip-off at 7:30.
