KING'S BASEBALL TEAM OPENS SEASON WITH 10-3 LOSS TO SHENANDOAH

WINCHESTER, VA -- With Northeastern Pennsylvania frozen over and snow and ice, the King's College baseball team managed to open its 2011 season. The Monarchs ventured to Winchester, Va. and dropped a 10-3 decision to host Shenandoah University in chilly 45-degree temperatures a Bridgeforth Field.

King's, which has yet to have an outside practice, managed to muster 10 hits in the nine-inning affair. Freshman Jared Turner topped the squad by going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Rob Lemoncelli was also 2-for-4 while Mike Fignar, Mike SantiagoBrenton Eades, and Anthony Re all added one hit. Brian Mikus was 1-for-3 and scored a run while Chris Sweeney went 1-for-4 and scored two runs.

Eades was the starting pitcher for King's and allowed six runs, four earned, on eight hits  with four strikeouts in five innings of work.  King's hurt itself defensively with six errors as the Monarchs fielded for the first time off the hardwood floor of Scandlon Gymnasium.

The Monarchs return to the diamond February 26 at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ when King's meets Rutgers-Newark.
