KING'S BASEBALL DEFEATS RUTGERS-NEWARK 4-1
 
FLEMINGTON, NJ -- The King's College baseball team picked up its first victory of the season as the Monarchs posted a 4-1 victory over Rutgers-Newark Saturday at Diamond City Saturday in Flemington, NJ.

With the win, the Monarchs improved to 1-1 while Rutgers-Newark fell in its season opener.

King's broke open a scoreless game in the fifth inning when Mike Fignar stroked a two-run single. King's added another run in the eighth when Fignar reached base on an error and later scored on an RBI single off the bat of Brian Mikus. The Monarchs pushed across an insurance run in the ninth when Rob Lemoncelli singled and moved to third on a base hit from Brenton Eades. Joey Troxell then lofted a sacrifice fly to plate Lemoncelli with King's final run of the game.

King's received a strong pitching performance from starter Tommy Rozelle and reliever Pat Matthews who combined on a three-hitter. Rozelle pitched five full innings, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out six batters. Matthews tossed the final four innings, yielding one hit with three strikeouts.
