Monarch Wrestlers Fall to 20th Ranked Elizabethtown, 25-19

KING'S WRESTLERS EDGED BY 20TH RANKED ELIZABETHTOWN

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College wrestling team continued its brutal season schedule as the Monarchs wrestled its ninth nationally-ranked opponent of the season, dropping a hard-fought 25-19 decision to 20th ranked Elizabethtown College Thursday in Scandlon Gymnasium.  

The Blue Jays won six of the 10 matches wrestled but the contest was not decided not decided until the final bout. With the Blue Jays clinging to a 22-19 lead, Elizabethtown heavyweight posted a 6-0 decision over Anthony Corigliano to seal the win.

King's got pins from Mike Laporta (133) and Chris Mazzocchi (149) to give the Monarchs a 12-10 lead after four bouts. Elizabethtown, however, benefited from a King's injury default at 157 before picking up a pair of decision at 165 and 174 to build a 22-12 lead.

The Monarchs countered with a 10-2 major decision by Mike Reilly at 184 and a 6-2 decision by Peter Dwyer at 197 to bring King's to within 22-19 heading into the final bout, where Katzaman posted the match-deciding victory.

King's returns to action Saturday when the Monarchs travel to Grantham for a tri-match with Morrisville and host Messiah College
