King's Baseball Salvages Split with Juniata on Turner's Walk-Off Grand Slam

KING'S BASEBALL SPLITS WITH JUNIATA
 
ORLANDO -- Jared Turner hit two home runs, including a game-winning, walk-off grand slam, to lead the King's College baseball team to a 8-6 victory over Juniata College in the second game of a doubleheader Friday in Orlando, Fla. Juniata won the first game 9-7.

King's took a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning of the nightcap when Juniata scored five runs to take an 6-4 lead.  The Monarchs loaded the bases before Turner launched the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to give the Monarchs the dramatic victory. Turner, who hit a solo shot in the first inning, finished the game by going 2-for-4 with five RBI and scored two runs. Anthony Re and Rob Lemoncelli were both 1-for-3 with an RBI. Chris Sweeney was 1-for-3 with two runs scored, while Mike Fignar and Rich Acierno both added one hit and one run apiece. Ryan Weiner picked up the pitching victory after recording the final two outs in the top-of-the-seventh.

In the opening game loss, King's (3-5) was led by Sweeney was who 2-for-4 with a double. Acierno went 1-for-3 with a RBI;  while Lemoncelli, Chris DiCarlo, and Bobby Bottafogo added RBI singles. Fignar was 1-for-3 with two runs and a double. Pat Matthews was the losing pitcher, tossing four innings and allowing nine runs, six that were earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts. Levi Tate pitched one hitless inning and struck out one batter.

King's will close out its Florida trip Saturday with a 9:00 a.m. doubleheader against Keystone College.
