MONARCH BASEBALL SQUAD DROPS 8-0 DECISION TO LEB-VAL

WILKES-BARRE --  Visiting Lebanon Valley College built a 6-0 lead after four innings and took advantage of four King's College errors as the Flying Dutchmen walked away with an 8-0 triumph to spoil the Monarchs 2011 home debut Tuesday at Lipo Field in the Betzler Athletic Complex.

With the loss, King's slipped to 3-8 while Lebanon Valley improved to 6-3.

The Dutchmen scored twice in the game's first at-bats when Colt Zarilla singled and moved to second on a balk. Jake Rhody then delivered a two-out RBI single and promptly stole second base. Dustin Deibert then followed with a run-scoring single.

Lebanon Valley added four runs in the fourth, thanks in large part to two King's errors. Ryan Schwartz had the big hit in the inning, a two-run double as the Dutchmen built a 6-0 lead.  Lebanon Valley added an unearned run in the fifth inning, then a solo home run from Rhody in the top-of-the-ninth.

King's, meanwhile, struggled to advance runners and was unable to score despite registering 11 base hits. The Monarchs stranded eight runners in the game. Rob Lemoncelli led King's with a 3-for-4 showing while Chris Sweeney was 2-for-3 and Mike Fignar went 2-for-4. Anthony Re, Jared TurnerBrenton Eades, and Matt Pritchard all added one hot for the Monarchs. Joe Dorbad took the pitching loss, allowing six runs, four earned in three and two-thirds innings.

The Monarchs return to the field Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game against Moravian.
