KING'S BASEBALL TEAM TO HOST MAINE PRESQUE ISLE SATURDAY

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College baseball team will return to the field field on Saturday when the Monarchs host the University of Maine at Preque Isle in the first-ever meeting between the teams at 2:00 p.m. at Lipo Field in the Betzler Athletic Complex.

King's enters the matchup with a 3-8 mark following an 8-0 loss to Lebanon Valley College in the Monarchs home debut on Tuesday. UMPI stands at 0-7 and have not played since a February 25 doubleheader loss to Averett University.

The Monarchs have shown flashes of solid play but are looking to gain consistency due to several key injuries, most notably to top pitcher Tommy Rozelle and junior standout Brian Mikus. The Monarchs own a .263 team batting average, led by sophomore shortstop Rob Lemoncelli who is batting .400 (15-37) with seven runs and five RBI. Sophomore Brenton Eades follows at .308 (8-26) with two doubles and three RBI. Sophomore outfielder Chris Sweeney stands at .300 (12-40) with four doubles and three RBI. Senior outfielder Mike Fignar bats .281 (9-32) with with two doubles, seven runs, and five RBI. Jared Turner hits .262 (11-42) with two home runs and 11 RBI while freshman second baseman Anthony Re chips in with a .256 (11-43) average with two doubles, five runs, and three stolen bases.

For Maine-Presque Isle, the game will mark the first of a six-day road stint against Pennsylvania colleges. After the matchup with King's, the Owls will play Penn State Scranton, Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Marywood, Moravian, and Eastern, before moving on to New York City for four more games.

The Owls are looking to find themselves offensively and enter the matchup with a .163 (30-184) team batting average.  Maine-Presque Isle is paced thus far by Corey Harding who is batting .278 (5-18). Carlos Villoria follows at .238 (5-21) with four RBI while Alex Csiernik checks in with a .231 (3-13) mark.

The Monarchs will then open Freedom Conference play the following day with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader against FDU-Florham Sunday at Lipo Field.
