ST. DAVIDS -- Chris Sweeney belted a pair of home runs and Levi Tate scattered three hits over six and two-thirds innings on the hill as the King's College baseball team posted a 5-2 victory over host Eastern University in game-two of a Freedom Conference doubleheader Sunday in St. Davids. Eastern won the first game 7-1.

With the split, King's stands at 7-15 overall and 3-7 in Freedom Conference games. Eastern, meanwhile, is 8-13 and 4-7 in league contests.

After falling in the first game, the Monarchs came out swinging in the nightcap. Joey Troxell and Rob Lemoncelli led off the first inning with back-to-back singles. Sweeney then followed with a three-run shot over the left field fence to give King's a 3-0 advantage.

The Monarchs added another run in the third when Sweeney singled and scored on a triple to left-center as the lead grew to 4-0.

After Eastern scored an unearned run in the fourth inning, Sweeney provided King's with an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning with a one-out solo home run to left center, giving the Monarchs a 5-1 lead.

The Eagles score the game's final run in the eighth as Tate, who had surrendered just one hit entering the inning, gave up two hits, including a two-out RBI single by Devon Zigenfuss to cut the Monarch lead to 5-2. Troxell would enter the game in relief for the Monarchs with the bases loaded and picked up the save by inducing an infield pop-out for the final out of the game.

Sweeney finished the game by going 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. Rich Acierno added two hits with an RBI while Matt Pritchard and Mike Fignar chipped in with one hit each for the Monarchs. Tate was solid, striking out three batters while improving his record to 1-1.

In the opener, led 1-0 after two innings but the Monarchs tied the score in the op of the fourth inning when Mike Fignar stroked a solo home run to centerfield. Eastern countered immediately in the bottom of the frame with four-runs to take a 5-1 advantage.

Eastern hurler Nick Moeltner kept King's at bay with a complete-game five-hitter while striking out five.

Aside from Fignar's home run, the Monarchs mustered singles from Lemoncelli, Brenton Eades, Tim Marchetti, and Anthony Re.

The teams will play the final game of their three-game series Monday with a 3:30 p.m. matchup at the King's Betzler Athletic Complex
