KING'S BASEBALL EDGES MARYWOOD 2-1 ON TROXELL RBI IN 8TH

SCRANTON -- A day after playing a 15-inning marathon against Eastern University, the King's College rallied from a 1-0 deficit by scoring once in the seventh and once in the eighth to register a 2-1 win over host Marywood University Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.

King's improves to 8-15-1 overall on the year while Marywood fell to 12-11.

Siciliano was strong for much of the game, keeping the Monarchs off the scoreboard over the first six innings of play as the southpaw struck out four.  Siciliano was matched by King's Bobby Buttafogo for the first four innings, but Marywood got to the Monarch's hurler in the fifth to take an early 1-0 lead.

Trailing 1-0 in the seventh inning, King's tied the game when Chris Sweeney led off with a single and then scored on an RBI double to left from Mike Fignar.  King's scored what proved to be the winning run in the eighth, when Tim Shea singled to right to start the inning for King's and promptly stole second.  A sacrifice bunt moved Shea to third and the freshman would score on Joey Troxell's RBI single to left center.

Buttafogo earned the win, improving to 1-2 on the year.  The Monarch hurler allowed one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts over seven full innings. Peter Fanning picked up the save, allowing two hits during the eighth and ninth innings

Sweeney finished the afternoon 2-for-4 for King's while Shea was 2-for-3. Brenton Eades and Anthony Re also added base hits for the Monarchs.

King's will travel to Center Valley on Friday for a 3:30 p.m. contest against DeSales. The teams will conclude their three-game series on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. double-header at King's Betzler Athletic Complex.
