KING'S MEN'S TENNIS EDGED BY EASTERN 5-4, WILL ENTER FREEDOM CONFERENCE TOURNEY AS NUMBER-FOUR SEED
ST. DAVIDS -- In a battle for the number-three seed in next week's Freedom Conference Tournament, the King's College men's tennis squad was edged by host Eastern University 5-4 Wednesday in St. Davids.
With the loss, King's slipped to 5-10 overall and 2-3 in Freedom Conference play. Eastern, meanehile, improved to 10-5 and 3-2. The win also gives Eastern the third seed in next week's Freedom Conference Tournament while the Monarchs will settle for the fourth seed.
Eastern opened the competition by winning two of the three doubles matches. Nick Conte and Chris DiMino won an 8-3 decision for the Monarchs in the number-three flight.
The teams would then go on to split the six singles contests. Tim Carroll was a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victor in the number-one spot. Rohring earned a 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 comeback triumph in the fifth spot. DiMino, who improved to 14-2 on the year, was King's final winner with a 6-3, 6-0 decision at sixth singles.
King's will returns to action tomorrow (Thursday) when the Monarchs host Baptist Bible College at 4:00 p.m. at Kirby Park.
