KING'S BASEBALL CONTINUES PLAYOFF PUSH TAKING TWO AT MANHATTANVILLE

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The King's College baseball team continued their push for a postseason berth taking two games at Manhattanville College Thursday afternoon. The Monarchs took game one 4-1, before exploding for 12 runs in a 12-2 victory in the night cap. The wins mark the fifth and sixth straight for the surging Monarchs with one week left until the Freedom Conference tournament.

King's improves to 13-15-1 overall and 8-7-1 in Freedom play. Manhattanville drops to 14-16 overall and 6-11 in league games.

In game one, King's took a 2-0 lead after two innings when Anthony Re doubled home two Monarchs. King's extended the lead to 4-0 in their next at-bats as Chris Sweeney continued his hot bat doubling down the left field line scoring Rob Lemoncelli. Mike Fignar then doubled home Sweeney to complete the scoring in the inning.

The host Valiants garnered one run in the fourth when Chris Nardozzi homered to right, but it was the Monarch pitching staff that held Manhattanville in check throughout. Joe Dorbad went all seven innings allowing just one run on five hits striking out five Manhattanville hitters. It marked the first win for the sophomore right-hander on the season.

In game two, King's wasted little time grabbing the lead scoring six runs in the first and three more in the second to take a commanding 9-1 lead after three innings of play. The Monarchs loaded the bases in the first scoring their first of six runs on a bases-loaded walk. Rich Acierno then singled home the second score before Brenton Eades' fielder's choice scored the Monarchs third tally. Another fielder's choice RBI from Tim Marchetti and an RBI single from Joey Troxel complete the inning.

Marchetti added his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the second and Re singled home two Monarch runs to complete the three-run frame for King's. From there Eades took over on the mound pitching 3 1/3 innings allowing just one hit and no runs to post the win.

King's will look to continue their playoff push Monday with a make-up contest against Manhattanville at 3:00 p.m. at Lipo Field. The single nine-inning tilt will complete the season series between the two teams.
