KING'S FIELD HOCKEY POSTS 7-2 SEASON OPENING WIN OVER KEYSTONE
WILKES-BARRE -- Jackie Sikora scored a career-high three goals and Jenera Quinones added two goals and two assists to power the King's College field hockey team to a 7-2 season-opening victory over visiting Keystone College Thursday night at McCarthy Stadium.
King's opened up a 6-0 halftime lead as Sikora scored all of her goals in the opening stanza. Quinones opened the scoring just 1:28 into the contest. Sikora scored back-to-back goals off assists from Calli Berriman to give the Monarchs a 3-0 lead with 23:30 left in the half. Berryman and Abby McManus then followed with goals off assists from Quinones for a 5-0 King's lead with 6:19 remaining in the opening stanza. Sikora then added her third goal with 1:06 to go in the half.
In the second stanza, Quinones opened up just as she did in the first hakf with a goal just 1:03 into the final frame as the King's lead swelled to 7-0.
Keystone finally got on the board when Katie Darling found the back of the net at the 28:08 mark before Katie Butzer pushed across the final score of the contest with 13:38 to play.
King's held a 13-8 advantage in shots while Keystone had a 7-5 edge in corners.
King's starting goalie Megan Withrow made one save without allowing a goal in the first half. Brittany Naylor posted three saves while allowing both Keystone scores.
King's will next travel to Owings Mills, Md. where the team will compete in the Stevenson University Invitational Saturday and Sunday
