Lady Monarchs Travel to Manhattaville for Freedom Conference Tilt

Purchase, NY-- The King's College women's basketball team will put its perfect conference record on the line Saturday when it travels to Manhattanville for a 1:00 p.m. tip against the Valiants.

The Lady Monarchs ran their record to 13-3 overall and 5-0 in the Freedom Conference with a 68-47 victory over cross-town rival Wilkes Wednesday. Manhattanville fell to 6-9 overall and 1-4 in the Freedom after dropping a 71-57 decision to Delaware Valley Wednesday.

The Valiants hold a 6-3 edge in the series since joining the Freedom in the 2007-08 season and the teams split their pair of games last season each winning on their home court.

King's defense has been at the forefront of the Lady Monarchs success forcing opponents into 22 turnovers per game. King's ranks second in the Freedom in field goal percentage defense holding opposing teams to .347 from the floor and .231 from beyond the arc. The Lady Monarchs rank third in the conference in scoring defense allowing just 57.8 points pre game just 0.7 points off the top spot held by Misericordia.

The offense ranks second in the conference averaging 67.8 points per contest. The Lady Monarchs have also hit 99 3-pointers this season which is the highest total in the Freedom.

The King's offense has been balanced with seven different players have led the Lady Monarchs in scoring. Samantha Simcox has scored 12.1 points and a team-high 8.6 rebounds. Paige Carlin has tallied 11.6 points per contest as well as 4.3 boards. Celia Rader has hit 34 3-pointers on her way to 10.8 points per game.

Katlin Michaels has triggered the offense with 8.6 points, 5.1 boards and  her 4.9 assists per game is the third best mark in the conference. Marissa Manning has had a strong freshman campaign scoring 7.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and her 21 blocks rank third in the Freedom.

Taylor Wilson has paced the Valiant offense with 13.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. She has also connected on 30 shots from beyond the arc. Courtney Turner averages 12.6 points per contest to go with 5.4 boards. Jennifer Mcsharar has chipped in 6.9 points and a team-high 8.5 boards.

King's will then return home Wednesday with a big 6:00 p.m. battle with fellow league contender Misericordia University in Scandlon Gymnasium
