KING'S FIELD HOCKEY BLANKS FDU 5-0 TO HAND DEVILS FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College field hockey team scored on its first four shots of the game en route to a 5-0 Freedom Conference victory over visiting FDU-Florham Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win King's improved to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the Freedom Conference. FDU-meanwhile, slipped to 7-8 overall and 3-1 in the Freedom


Alyssa Monaghan scored unassisted just 1:44 into the game to put the Lady Monarchs on top. Calli Berryman made it a 2-0 game when she redirected feed from Jackie Sikora into the net at the 7:50 mark.

The King's advantage grew to 3-0 when Sikora pushed across an unassisted goal at 13:08. Monaghan then converted her second unassisted goal at 18:13 as the Lady Monarchs took a 4-0 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half FDU played without a goalie and used 10 players on the offensive end.

The Lady Monarchs managed to push across their final goal with 13:49 remaining when Berryman scored in transition off a lead pass by Monaghan.

Monaghan led the Lady Monarchs with two goals and an assist while
Berryman tallied a pair of goals. Sikora chipped in with one goal and one assist for King's.

Megan Withrow made two saves in net for the Lady Monarchs.

King's returns to action Wednesday when the King's travels to face cross-town rival Wilkes at 7:00 p.m.
