MONARCH SOCCER POSTS 5-1 LEAGUE WIN OVER FDU
?WILKES-BARRE -- Chris Nygren and David Stroh scored two goals apiece to power the host King's College men's soccer team to a 5-1 Freedom Conference victory over visiting FDU-Florham Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.
King's opened the scoring with 35:11 left in the first half when Nygren converted a through pass from Mike Smart with a shot just inside the left post. The Monarchs extended the lead to 2-0 just 2:34 later when Nygren scored his second goal unassisted.
FDU, however, made good on a direct kick when Emin Matezic placed his shot into the upper left side of the net with just 0:12 on the clock as the Devils cut the lead to 2-1 at the half.
King's pushed the lead back to two goals when Stroh converted a rebound off an initial shot from Kevin Buchanan with 31:31 remaining in the contest as the Monarchs took a 3-1 lead.
The Monarch duo struck again just 5:23 later when Stroh again scored off a Buchanan pass with 26:08 left in the match.
King's continued the onslaught when Erik Foster knocked in a crossing pass from Niall Croke to give the Monarchs a 5-1 advantage with 19:50 on the clock.
The Monarchs held a 19-8 advantage in shots as well as a 10-3 lead in corner kicks. Monarch goalie mark Labbadia made one save to pick up the victory in net.
The Monarchs return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. road matchup with Eastern University in St. Davids.
