King's Field Hockey Downs Wilkes 2-1 as Lady Monarchs Secure 14th Straight Season with at Least 10 Wins

KING'S FIELD HOCKEY HOLDS OFF WILKES TO PICK UP IMPORTANT 2-1 VICTORY

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College field hockey team made a pair of first-half goals stand up as the Lady Monarchs posted an important 2-1 Freedom Conference road victory over cross-town rival Wilkes University Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.

With the win, King's improved to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in Freedom Conference play. The victory also enabled the Lady Monarchs to win at least 10 games for the 14th straight season, dating back to 1999. Wilkes, meanwhile, slipped to 608 overall and 1-4 in league games.


King's opened the scoring 9:42 into the game when Meghan Wernimont scored on a penalty stroke to give the Lady Monarchs a 1-0 lead. The Lady Monarchs would take a 2-0 lead into the half-time break when Calli Berryman scored off an assist from Kim Howanitz just 3:12 later.

In the second half Wilkes got on the board just 1:05 into the final frame when Ashley Ream deflected in a shot from Laura Pawling to cut he margin to 2-1. The game would remain scoreless the rest of the way as King's walked away with the victory.

King's returns
to action Friday against another local rival when Misericordia University invades McCarthy Stadium for a 7:00 p.m. Freedom Conference pairing. The game will also mark Senior Night for the Lady Monarchs.
