Berryman Lifts King's to 1-0 Win Over Misericordia with Overtime Goal

Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-- Calli Berryman found the back of the net 4:32 into the second overtime period to lift the Lady Monarchs past local rival Misericordia in Freedom Conference field hockey play Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.

After missing several opportunities in the first overtime King's came out quickly in the second extra frame. Four minutes into the overtime Alyssa Monaghan crossed a ball in front of the Misericordia (3-14, 1-5 Freedom) cage. The ball hit a Cougar stick and popped up over the goalkeeper. In the ensuing scrum Berryman found the ball trickling towards the goalline and poked in across as she was falling down.

The Lady Monarchs (11-6, 5-1) out shot Misericordia 22-6 and held a 19-6 advantage in corners. King's also had a penalty stroke in the first overtime that missed just wide.

Berryman attempted 13 shots and put nine of them on goal. Alyssa Monaghan and Jackie Sikora each put 2-of-3 shots on goal.

Megan Withrow picked up her second shutout of the year making four saves. Misericordia keeper Grace Riker took the tough loss making 10 saves including eight in overtime.

The Lady Monarchs finish up regular season play when they host Freedom Conference opponent DeSales at McCarthy Stadium Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
