KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO ALVERNIA, 4-1

WILKES-BARRE -- After posting its biggest win of the season on Saturday against three-time defending Freedom Conference champion Eastern University, the host King's College field hockey team came out flat and visiting Alvernia University made the Lady Monarchs pay.

The Crusaders built a 3-0 half-time lead and cruised to a 4-1 victory over King's in a non-conference matchup Thursday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the loss, King's fell to 8-4 while Alvernia improved to 6-6.

Alvernia opened the scoring just 3:27 into the game when Miranda Peto scored unassisted. Lauren Guido made it 2-0 at 10:00 when she scored on a two-on-one fast-break feed from Petro.

Brittany Barcus the scored for the Crusaders on a scramble in front of the net at 22:42 as Alvernia took a 3-0 into the half-time break.

The Lady Monarchs came out stronger in the second half and controlled play until Alvernia made good on a defensive-to-offensive transition and scored at 46:14 when Peto found the net on an assist from Guido.

King's finally got on the board when Jackie Sikora struck net off an assist from Calli Berryman with at the 51:08 mark but the Lady Monarchs would draw no closer as Alvernia walked away with the 4-1 triumph.

Peto led the Crusaders with two goals and an assist while Guido added one goal and one assist.

King's outshot Alvernia 17-14 and held a commanding 14-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Lady Monarch goalie Megan Withrow posted eight saves while Alvernia keeper Erin Wunsch also made eight stops.

King's returns to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. match against Delaware Valley College in Doylestown.
